Level of Difficulty: Easy, less than a mile.
Time: About 25 minutes round-trip
Directions:
Salmon was planted at the Salmon River Falls in Orwell, NY. Take I-81 North to Exit 36 (Pulaski). Turn right onto Route 13 and go into Altmar. Just past the Citco gas station, turn left onto Cemetery Road (Route 22). Go straight at the stop sign, staying on Route 22. Drive about 4.5 miles and turn right onto Falls Road. Then go 1.3 miles to the parking lot on the right hand side of the road.
**This is a micro-box and you will need you own ink pad and a pen.
***Trail is stroller and wheelchair accessible, but the letterbox is not.
Clues:
Take the trail to the left of the parking lot. You will pass a look-out on the right that has a great view of the falls. You will then come to an opening where you can see the falls a little more clearly. Continue on the trail past this open area. You will come to a trail marker/sign on the right side of the path that reads “Upper Falls.” Just past this sign, take a left onto the trail. Go 23 paces up the small incline and turn to your left. There is a medium size oak tree behind a smaller oak tree. Behind the medium size oak tree and under some rocks is the Salmon.
