2 ½ mile loop, 500 ft. elevation gain

This box is in the Irish Hills Open Space Park.

DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 take the Madonna exit and head southwest, all the way to the end, where it intersects with Devaull Ranch Rd. Park here. This is the trailhead for Irish Hills Open Space.

CLUES: Begin this loop starting with the Mariposa Trail that goes on up the hill, and be sure to pick up the other letterboxes in this park. You’ll cross foot bridges, and eventually this trail comes to a dirt road. Continue the loop by going left on the dirt road, up past the powerlines. Then you will come to a fence. Go on through and continue on; now you’ll be on King Trail portion of the loop. You’ll cross to two more foot bridges. After the bridges, there are trees set back along the right side of the trail. At the end of the grouping closest to the trail, there is a tree with a sort of heart-shaped hole in it. Stop here and look further to the left of this tree and see the next one is gnarly, “knotted” and pretty much laying down. If nobody is looking, then go down the hill to this tree. Be careful, it is a bit slippery. When you get there, step down into the “Y” formed by the two branches reaching further down the hill. 3 steps more, and to the right is the box, under bark, sticks and leaves. A rock marks the spot. If you are quiet and stay down, you won’t be noticed by others passing by. Jasmine (dog) and I were not discovered by bikers and a few people who walked by. Please be sure to tuck it firmly back under the tree branch and hide it well with debris, and replace the rock snuggly.
