Hi! My name is Danny and today is my eighth birthday. To celebrate I placed a letterbox on the Montour Trail. It is located at about 6 ½ miles on the trail.
I will give you directions to get to find the letterbox beginning at the Enlow Tunnel. There is parking near the tunnel. You will have to travel east from the tunnel. This will be in the direction of the mile markers going from higher numbers to lower numbers.
On the eastern side of the Enlow Tunnel, there will be a large rock on your right. You will then go over a bridge. Now look for the following landmarks in this order:
Tall metal telephone pole on your left (#1)
Tall metal telephone pole on your left (#2)
Mile post 7 will be on your right
Go over a bridge
Tall metal telephone pole on your left (#3)
Wooden bench on your right
Tall metal telephone pole on your left (#4)
Go over another bridge
Tall metal telephone pole on your left (#5)
From the fifth telephone pole, count your paces. You will go 35 paces then stop. On your left will be a small grassy area. Enter the woods from this area. Go straight back into the woods. Soon you will see the remains of some old buildings and machinery. Beyond the buildings is a creek. You do not need to go as far as the creek. The letterbox is located between a large metal cylindrical tank and the creek. It is hidden under a dark piece of wood. (Not a tree trunk.) The piece of wood is lying on the ground, parallel with the creek.
Note: Telephone poles #1 to #5 were all on the left. If you get to the sixth telephone pole, it will be on your right, and you have gone too far.
Genetic Blend has several letterboxes in the area. In fact, Danny’s Birthday Box is between Genetic Blend’s “Bicyclist” and “Mystery Animal #4”, both of which are also on the Montour Trail. All are within walking distance. You could easily find 3-4 boxes in one trip.
