How beautiful and perfect are the animals!
How perfect the earth, and the minutest thing upon it!

- Walt Whitman

This is another box in honor of Walt Whitman, who loved and hiked these woods over a hundred years ago. This hike will take about a half hour and has an elevation change of about 30 – 40 feet. This is a store-bought stamp. You'll need to bring your own pen and ink to this one.

After finding the ‘Leaves of Grass: 2nd Edition’ Letterbox, follow the instructions that take you back to your car, but stop when you reach the gate right before the clearing. Look to the left and you will see a trail heading off into the woods, and in the distance, a tree with a white blaze and a National Recreation Trail tag on it.

Follow the white trail. The trail will take you down and around a bend and down a steep incline into a hollow. A fence will parallel the trail at times. Please note that there are alot of trees that were downed during Sandy and the trail meanders around a few of them. You will have to step over one or more as well. After a while you’ll see some sticks and logs that were laid down on the path. It can get quite muddy there, especially after it rains, so step gingerly on them. About 20 paces from there, you’ll see Tracey and Dennis' tree in front of you with a blazes telling you to go to the right. Stop there and look about 230 degrees.

You'll see a twin sister tree up in the woods a little off the trail. Head towards it. Behind the sisters is a tree that KL and MK left their mark on. The frog lies nestled behind a stone & under some bark and leaves at its base.

After stamping in and re-hiding our friend (and please re-hide him well, as this is a pretty well used area), continue on the white trail, going past the Toad Pond, which is on your left. Stay alert and you’ll see oog on the right that has been cut. Turn there and you will see a trail with steps heading up out of the hollow. Look sharp, because you'll have to step over some fallen trees. It’s a rather steep climb, but it will lead you back to where you parked your car.

Hope you liked hiking on the trails that Walt himself may have traveled.

(ANOTHER NOTE: There is no ink pad in this box, so please bring your own ink. Thanks)
