This stamp was placed because the "sun is setting" on our time living in Kansas City. So as we prepared to move to our new home, we wanted to leave a memory at a great place we loved to frequent and enjoy--the Arboretum.

From I-435 and 69 Hwy, go south on 69 Hwy to 179th St. (brown "Arboretum" sign on highway right before exit) Turn right on 179th St. and go about 1/2 mile to Overland Park Arboretum entrance on left. Park in the Visitor Parking.

First stop by the Environmental Education and Visitor's center to obtain a trail map, sign the guest book, and check out the interesting artifacts.

Start off East on Asphalt Trail. Just past picnic area, turn and go South on Cottonwood Trail (watch out for the thorny Honey Locust tree!) Cross the asphalt path and continue along the Cottonwood Trail. Stop and read about the Barn Owl by the Bur Oak. When you reach the first bridge, cross over it (going over Wolf Creek) and start on the Lower Bluff Trail. At the "Y" in the trail, continue straight (do not go left) and follow the arrow on the wooden sign that says "bridge". Go until the next bridge and cross back over Wolf Creek. Go right on West (brown) Trail. Trail curves right at the "Copperhead Snake" informational sign. Continue a short distance to the fence on the right. Letterbox is hidden behind the tree that is directly behind the 1st big fence post. Then stay and enjoy the other many beautiful areas the Arboretum has to offer. Good Luck!

Note: The O.P. Arboretum is open daily from 8am to 7:30pm (April 10 to September 30) and 8am to 5pm (Oct. 1 to April 9)
