*** Replaced 3/14/2009. Best as a night-hunt -- less prying eyes! ***
A Hand-carved stamp in a Drive-by box.
Jack Dempsey (A.K.A. the Manassa Mauler) was a favorite son of the San Luis Valley. He has been called the world’s greatest heavyweight boxer of the 20th century, after holding the title of champion from 1919-26. The cabin in which he was born has long been a museum, housing a large amount of memorabilia from his career.
Find the Jack Dempsey Museum and Park at 412 Main Street in Manassa. On the south side of the park is a large wooden sign featuring our hero. The box is in the back-left corner of this raised brick planter.
