At least one of these boxes is missing (the third one). I haven't checked on them in a while, so hunt for them knowing they might be missing.

The Sunrise Prarie Trail is a wonderful example of rails-to-trails recreation. Spanning over 25 miles in length, it runs from ever-expanding Hugo, MN to North Branch. Views alternate between urban and rural, but it takes you past some very peaceful, scenic fields, streams, wetlands, and the oak savannah of southern Chisago County. As you head north you will grow wings and fly! :)

It is best to bring bikes or 'blades, as the total distance out and back is about 7 miles. The trail is nicely paved asphalt and perfect for either mode. You may also ride horseback alongside the paved path. No motorized vehicles allowed on the trail, except non-studded snowmobiles in the winter.

Start your journey in Wyoming, MN, east of I-35 at the northwest corner of the intersection of East Viking Blvd and Forest Blvd. (the only stoplight in town east of the freeway). There is a parking area here for trail users.

Head north on the trail

#1- STRIPES: At approx. 3/4 to 1 mile you will go past the B-Line, and then further on you'll pass the billboard for Rick Shilling. Another tenth of a mile or so will be a place to rest on your right, with a bench. You can see the Pinehaven barn farther up and across the freeway from here. The bench is under a pair of gnarly white oak trees. Under the oaks is a stand of buckthorn trees/shrubs. At the base of the largest buckthorn trunk (which is only 1.5") is the box, under leaves, bark - the usual camouflage. Please replace carefully.

Suggested colors: Black and yellow

#2 - CHRYSALIS: Head north another mile. You will see a tall red and while radio tower to the east. Almost at the pint you are even with the tower you will find another rest spot and bench on the west side of the trail. This one is under a wonderful red oak with many trunks. There is barbed wire, but enough space is between the top two strands to sneak through (I did it in rollerblades!). Just on the backside of the tree trunk is the box, under bark and leaves, with a long branch on top. Please rehide carefully and thoroughly

Suggested colors: Yellow, green and black

#3 - WINGS: Back to the trail and northbound again, for another mile to mile-and-a-half. (Sorry, I don't have an odometer for my skates!). You will find a third and final bench on the east side of the trail. There are some newer homes directly behind the bench. This one is also under a large red oak. From the south end of the bench take a bearing of 125° and locate the wooden stake with a pink ribbon, about 15 steps away from you. Just to the right of that is another metal stake with a concrete block at its base. Under that block is the box. This one especially needs to be re-hidden very well. Should be easy - lots of leaves to help.

Suggested colors: black and orange, of course!

If you keep going another half mile or so you will go over a stream and come to a nice little park in the town of Stacy, with playground equipment for the kids, restrooms, a drinking fountain (in the summer) and a ballfield.
