Estimated Time: 3-6 hours.
Clues: Moderate very straightforward.
Terrain: Moderate to Difficult. Depending of which approach you use the distance round trip can be between 4 to 8 miles.

Trails are well marked.

This area is offers beautiful opportunities for camping and viewing wildlife. There are a multitude of trails in this region that will allow visiting other ponds, climbing a couple of mountains, fishing. There are a few ways to hike into Fishbrook Pond all offer a unique view of the southeastern Adirondacks. There are five lean-tos in the area, of this intersection (Within 4 miles of that is). I may recommend the latest version of Guide to Adirondack Trails 6 Eastern Region, by the Adirondack Mountain Club.

The following is the directions to the Hogtown Trailhead, which offers the shortest walk into Fishbrook Pond: From exit 20 of the Northway (I-87); take NYS route 149 east to the intersection with NY 9L. Here, continue straight (east) on NY 149 for 1.6 miles to Buttermilk Falls road, on the left. The Black Rooster Stove Store is on the left at this turn. Turn left onto Buttermilk Falls road. After about 3 miles, the road becomes Sly Pond Road and the pavement ends. It is somewhat slow at times, but easily passable by normal cars. At 8.7 miles from NY 149, Hogtown Road comes in on the right. Continue straight, now on Shelving Rock Road. At 9.4 miles from NY 149 is the Hogtown Trailhead and parking for the Lake George Trails System. Drive into the parking lot and there will be a small road if you continue straight trough the parking lot. If this is not bared by the DEC it is open for you to dive to the Dacy Clearing. If closed you will have to walk the 1.5 miles to the clearing. It is usually opened during the summer, as there are designated campsites along this gravel road.

From Dacy clearing, you will see the trail to Sleeping Beauty, Bumps Pond and Fish Brook Pond which is the trail that goes to the east side of the clearing as you enter the clearing from the hogtown trailhead road. This starts out as one trail. You will pass Bumps Pond before you get to Fish Brook Pond. Fish Brook Pond is about 2.6 miles of moderate hiking from Dacy clearing. The trail is well marked and there are DEC signs to guide you on your way when you get to various intersections. When you reach Fishbrook Pond you will pass close to Lean-to No 1 next to the shore and you can see lean-to No. 2 across the pond. Continue along the trail and you will in short time come to a small bridge that crosses the outlet of Fishbrook Pond, follow the trail to the lean-to, as the snowmobile trail sill lead you to the intersection that I reference below, but the trail is less obvious. I would recommend that you have a topo map with you.

Clues
The Fishbrook Pond Letterbox is located at the intersection of the Hogtown to Fishbrook trail, Fishbrook from Lake George Trail and the Lapland Pond Trail, at the Northeast corner of Fishbrook Pond. At the above-mentioned intersection and there will be a tree with wooden trail signs on it.From that tree go on a bearing of 156 d. about 18 paces (+/-) up a hill to it's top. to a rock outcrop on your left; then go on a bearing of 58 d. about 10 paces or so along the face if this outcrop (rock outcrop will be on your right) to a an angle in the outcrop. You will pass a small one as you do. To your right there is a crevice in the rock that holds the letterbox under some rocks and sticks.
