See 'Trail of the Macabre-Part 1' and continue from Box #2...

Welcome to the "Trail of the Macabre" letterbox series...A three part, six stamp series that has nothing to do with the area, but opens the door to a haunting, eerie and very true part of U.S. history...the serial killer! For some years I have read many (probably too many, Ha!) intruiging stories from true crime novels. Then I got into Letterboxing and tried my hand at stamp carving...so here we are...my first series, Enjoy!...and ALWAYS look over your shoulder...
This 3 part series is placed in Aroostook State Park. I chose to place here for no particular reason, maybe because it is such a pretty place to put such dark secrets...Aroostook State Park is located off of Route 1 before you reach the town of Presque Isle... just follow the signs...Once you reach the park, pay the minimal 2.00 gate fee, grab a map, and continue along the park road and park in main parking lot...NOTE: stamps are of larger nature (aprox. 3" by 3")..just an fyi and always bring your own ink, though it is provided....

From Box# 2 (Trail of the Macabre-Part 1), make your way past latrines back to parking lot...Locate the stairs on the opposite side of parking lot...Follow them up to the Quaquajo Nature Trail (marked with blue marker)...

David Richard Berkowitz (b.Jun.1,1953), better known by his nicknames "Son of Sam" or "The .44 Caliber Killer", is an infamous serial killer who confessed to killing six people and wounding several others in New York City in the late 1970s. The "Son of Sam" case was reopened in 1996, and as of 2004 was officially considered open.....From the Quaquajo Nature Trail sign, follow the trail up until you come to a split in the trail...Left is the way...Through moss covered trees and over the bridge...Look down after 7 or 8 paces from the edge of bridge, (1 pace=2 steps)...One hollow stump (almost in middle of trail)...Follow trail...Two hollow stump...Keep going...Three hollow stump...Stop...Take six paces from third hollow stump...Stop...Double rooted tree on the left...Not it...The tree on the right holds The Son of Sam under the Bark! (get it?, David Berkowitz said his neighbors dog instructed him to do the killings)...Stamp up and rehide extremely well since so close to path...Now onto Box# 4....

John Wayne Gacy, Jr.,(Mar.17,1942-May 10,1994) was an American serial killer. He was convicted and later executed for the murder of 33 young men, 29 of whom he buried in the crawl space under his house, between 1972 and his arrest in December 1978. He became notorious as the "Killer Clown" because of the many block parties he attended, entertaining children in a clown suit and makeup...From Box# 3 head back towards the split in the trail...But wait!...Remember the stumps?...Three of them...Count one, then two from Box# 3...Stop at hollow stump #2 in middle of the trail...Turn 180 deg....Take 4 paces...Stop...Hmmmmmm, that mossy log on the left holds The Killer Clown...Gacy is in the end of it...This stamp is of Gacy dressed as Pogo the Clown...Stamp up, stuff box back in hole, and rehide extremely well (make sure box is covered with bark and whatnot completely for it is in direct sight on trail)...Okay, Four down, Two to go...Trail of the Macabre-Part 3 will be posted soon, so stay tuned...Part 3 has R.R. and J.D. as the last two?????...You'll have to wait and see.....Enjoy the park for awhile, awesome scenery..........

A Note from The Aroostook Misfit: This series is NOT intended to offend anyone. There is no "gore" involved in the stamps, just portraits of the faces that have tarnished the human species. Thanks, T.A.M.
