While visiting Seattle last month, I had the chance to see hundreds of salmon climbing their way up a fish ladder to their spawning grounds. Rangers were catching and tagging fish at random in order to study their spawning habits. Trying to escape the Rangers, one little guy jumped into my bag and said “please take me far from here so that I won’t be tagged”. I promised to take him to a river filled with fresh, Rocky Mountain water and release him there.

Knowing that a live fish wouldn’t last long (or smell very good) in my luggage, I visited the smoke house to have him prepped for the long trip home.

True to my word, the smoked salmon has been released in his new Rocky Mountain home just in time for the Grand Grand Lake Gathering. Take highway 40 past its intersection with highway 125, just west of Granby. There will be a pull-off area on the left side of the road slightly less than one mile further down highway 40. You can tell you are in the right area by the “Fishing in Colorado” informational marker.

While facing the sign, look to your left for the largest rock. Hidden at the base of this rock, on the road side, Smoked Salmon is nestled behind two smaller rocks.

Box contains handcarved stamp, handmade journal and pen. There is a reward for the first finder. Please bring your own ink.
