THE WHISPERING PINES OF WATOGA LETTER BOX @ Watoga State Park in West Virginia

DIRECTIONS:

You are going to ride this letter box before you get to the lake. So if you get to the lake then you have gone to far. Turn around.

From I-64 in Lewisburg, WV head north on US 219. Follow 219 to Hillsboro and approximately 2 miles North of Hillsboro (after passing The Pearl S. Buck Homeplace) there will be a Watoga State Park sign. Turn right on Seebert Lane and follow the winding (sharp curves!!) road to a one lane bridge. You have to take turns with on-coming traffic to cross. After you cross the bridge the road will go left and right. Veer right. The road will continue to be winding and narrow. Drive passed the Island Lick Cabin Area - Cabins # 3 - # 11. (there should be a small building on your right -utility building I think). Look for a pull-over on the left with approx. 9 rocks and a wooden foot bridge crossing the creek. The path is called "Bear Pen Run Trail".
Cross the wooden bridge and follow the path up hill 65 steps (size 6 shoe). Now look for multiple branched laurel tree next to a rock that looks like a shelf seat. Underneath the ledge of the rock buried by leaves is what you have been seeking.

Hope that you have enjoyed the hike.

BE VERY DISCREET AND RECOVER BETTER THAN WHAT FOUND.

WHEN YOU FIND THE LETTER BOX PLEASE NOTIFY US AT tincher5@earthlink.net and also if you leave a hitchhiker please tell us so that we can go get the stamp and stamp it in our log book. We love to have a copy of each hitchhiker that is left in our boxes.

Hope that you have had some happy hunting. Stay a while and enjoy the walk. Or take a swim in the pool if it is open. The fishing here is really good. There are even boats that you can rent and go out onto the lake: row boat and paddle boats.

If interested check on the other letter box there at Watoga that we placed called, "Pine Run".
