" I LOVE BEAR TOWN " @ Beartown West Virginia

DIRECTIONS:

From I-64 in Lewisburg take US 219 North to Beartown State Park. The park is on the right side and is around 23 miles from Lewisburg. You'll curve a hard right off of 219 and go up a road in front of a white church. Travel this road carefully. You'll drive for a few miles passing several homes and then you'll see a sign for Beartown that leads to the left up a short hill as so to say. Stay on this road till you come to the parking lot that circles around. Enjoy and have fun.

Take a picnic with you and enjoy a lunch there.

There is a bathroom there for use (an older one and a newer one) - in case you would need one.

The deer are abundant in this area and very beautiful but be very careful they'll jump out in front of your car.

There is going to be some climbing involved on this adventure but nothing bad. Enjoy and be careful. Watch for all types of animals and as always leave nature the way that you found it.

CLUES:

At the beginning of the trail is an old hand pump water fountain. This was a blast for my children and nieces to use the day that we were there. The water is VERY COLD, however do not drink it. The taste is very nasty. But good for cleaning hand if need be. Head down the trail to where it turns into a board walk. (Some sections of this board walk does stay damp because of the area that this park is involved in the forest). There is much to see and explore in this park. There is also history with this park and signs to tell of this history. After the trail turns into a boardwalk there will be a Beartown State Park Sign on the left side of the board walk. Just after that sign the boardwalk veers left and right.Take the right and continue down 5 sets of steps to where the boardwalk takes a hard left. Stay on the board walk (you'll go up and down several sets of steps), until you reach the sign called the "PITS". This is where there are 2 holes that you can crawl into and sit in and take pictures. They do stay some damp. From that area take about 6 sets of steps to the two benches. Now sit down on the left side and relax a while and enjoyed the stillness of nature. Look behind the left bench and you'll see a small single tree. Climb down and stand in front of that tree and walk about 3 steps to the moss covered rock laying on the ground. Climb up and stand on that rock. Now look right, (make sure thought before you do this that a snake or another animal has not made this area a home). Look to the right on the rock ledge. In the corner the "Bear who loves Beartown", has made his home under some leaves, rock and a small branches and ferns. Be careful not to wake him of other up and make them made they might growl and bite.

PLEASE BE DISCREET AND REMEMBER TO PLACE THE BEAR BACK IN HIS HOME SAFELY AND HIDDEN BETTER THAN WHAT YOU HAVE FOUND IT.

HAPPY LETTER BOX HUNTING.

Now that you have found the letter box walk the rest of the boardwalk and enjoy the sights. You'll see a tree that has been struck by lighting twice and numerous other interesting sights.

PLEASE email me at tincher5@earthlink.net when you find this box. Also let us know if you leave a hitchhiker so as we can go get the box and make a copy in our book of the hitchhiker. We like to see what people leave us.

Thank you and we hope that you have enjoyed one of our favorite spots when we were children growing up in this area. We still like to come back here as adults with all of our children.
