DEER CROSSING LETTER BOX @ Droop Mountain Battlefield in Hillsboro, West Virginia

DIRECTIONS:

From I-64 in Lewisburg, West Virginia take US 219 North drive 27 miles to Droop Mountain Battle filed State Park. At this site in 1863 there was a civil war battle. The park has many trails and beautiful views. Also in the park is a Civil War Artifact museum and a Tower to view the town of Hillsboro and the surrounding countryside. If you are entering the park from the direction of Lewisburg, you will pass one entrance and enter the next drive. There are park signs at both drives. There are many deer and they do cause auto accidents in this part of the country so be very careful.

CLUES:

After driving into the park there is a crossroads and form that there is a sign that points to the Tower. Take that (which is the right) and follow the road to the Tower. Park and walk to the Tower sign and read the information, take the time to walk into the Tower and walk to the top. The view is breathe taking. Take you camera and video. It is well worth remembering.
Now climb down the tower and look to your right and see a row of rock. Count to the 22nd rock and walk down the hill and you'll see a sign that is low to the ground that points to the TOILETS. Walk past that sign and several pine trees. From there you should begin to see the shelter (on your left). From there look to your right and you'll see a rock walk way that leads down hill. Look for the sign that says "Minie Ball Trail". At the left of that rock walk way there is a tree with multiple branches (laurel tree). At the base of that multiple branched tree is a rock. Lift the rock and underneath is the "DEER CROSSING" letter box.

BE VERY DISCREET AND RECOVER BETTER THAN WHAT FOUND.

WHEN YOU FIND THE LETTER BOX PLEASE NOTIFY US AT tincher5@earthlink.net and also if you leave a hitchhiker please tell us so that we can go get the stamp and stamp it in our log book. We love to have a copy of each hitchhiker that is left in our boxes.

Hope that you have had some happy hunting.
