This letterbox was hidden by the Ellies, which is a group of kids ranging in ages from 9-12. We are the oldest group at the University of Oregon's Child Care Center.

Approximate length of round trip hike: 1.7 miles
Terrain: Fairly flat, with some ups and downs
Great for kids!

McDowell Creek is located east of Sweet Home on Highway 20.

Once you arrive at the park, park in the main parking lot closest to the trail that begins with a wooden bridge. (There is only one trail that begins with a bridge.)

Take the trail the begins with the wooden bridge.

Cross a second wooden bridge that brings you to a view of "Terrace Falls" (named because of its three terraces.) There are no signs that actually name the bridge.

Continue straight to a third bridge. At the end of this bridge, take the low trail. It becomes very rocky and rooty. At times you may not feel like it is a path at all, but eventually you return to an obvious trail.

Continue on in the opposite direction of the flow of the creek, going up, up, up.

At a Y in the trail, turn right and go down, then up, then down, then up.

Cross the road ( be careful; the cars go very fast here!). Continue on, deep into the forest.

Hear the water at your right? Follow the sound until a waterfall comes into sight!

Keep your eyes out for a slight downhill trail on the right that leads to the waterfall. Don't take this path though! From where that path begins, look across the main trail to a two-headed tree.

Facing this tree from the path, walk up and around the right side. The box is hidden in the tree's roots.

Good luck! Please remember to rehide the box so that it is fully hidden from view.
