Travel to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Plum Creek Homestead by traveling to Walnut Grove via Hwy 14 and then turning north on Country Road 5. Travel approximately 1.5 miles and turn right where the sign indicates the homestead. Pass the red barn and the white house, donate $3 to the family that manages this site on their land and drive down the gravel road to the turn around site and park.
The signs indicate a footbridge over Plum Creek to the dug out sod house site. Passing over the bridge, count 36 planks up the ramp to the footbridge and look under the footbridge.
Take some time to explore the creek where Laura and Mary played and enjoy the beautiful prairie.
We will not be able to return to the box, so if it needs attention, please help if you can.
