Montrose, PA is a small town with a great deal of history and traditions. The 1811 Hinds Settlement was incorporated as Montrose Borough in 1824. Montrose was a stop for the Underground Railroad and a favorite vacation stop with 3 railroads bringing the “summer people”. A WALKING TOUR map showing the beautiful buildings and homes can be obtained at the Susquehanna County Historical Society on the corner of Maple St. and Monument Square (next to the US Post Office) or in many of our fine shops. Our architectural highlights includes: Classical, Italianate Villa, Colonial/Federal, Victorian, Greek Revival, “pattern book house of the 1840’s, and Gothic Revival. 4th of July, the Blueberry Festival in August, along with the Apple Festival in September, bring many craftspeople and visitors.
