The Loon Pond Loop letterbox can be found on the Charles E. Tasse Trail System in the Jones Farm Conservation Area in Gilmanton NH. **This letterbox was removed on September 15, 2006, due to extensive logging on the property. The box was re-planted in the spring of 2007.

From the intersection of NH routes 107 and 140, go south on 107 for 3 miles, passing Loon Pond on the right. Turn right on Loon Pond Road and go .9 miles to the small dirt parking area near the bottom of a hill just past the Gilmanton Bookworm sign. Park, then follow the trail through a swampy overgrown field. In July and August there are prolific high bush blueberries. In about 5 minutes, depending on how many berries you pick, cross an old stone wall and enter a pine forest. Follow the red-blazed trail for another 5 minutes until you come to the yellow-blazed Loon Pond Loop trail: follow this to the right. Soon you will see glimpses of the water through the trees. After another 5 minutes or so, the trail turns left. With your back to the water, as you walk along, you will soon see a large granite outcropping directly ahead, where the trail turns to the right. Walk up and to the left of the rocks, almost to the top, to an executive desk sized boulder with a small cave beneath. There you will find the loon hiding.

After re-hiding the box, return to the loop trail and continue in the same direction you had been going. In a few minutes you will return to the red-blazed main trail; go left, and in about 15 minutes you will be back at your car.
