One of the reasons we enjoy visiting Oregon are the many microbrewpubs offering India Pale Ale (IPA), a style of beer very strong in hops. Aficionados of this type of ale are called “hopheads”.
This box is hidden in Silver Falls State Park. Obtain a map of the park to help you locate the roads and trails. After entering the park on State Highway 214, turn east on the road to the Conference Center, Camper Registration and Camp Ground. After passing the fee/registration booth, turn left on the road to the Conference Center. Turn left on the road to Howard Creek Horse Area. Turn left into the Trailhead Parking/Day Use Area and park there.
Walk south on the trail that has the sign for trails and water hole. In a short distance you will arrive at a road. Turn left (east) toward the Howard Creek Loop and Buck Mountain Loop Trails. Turn right off the road on to the Howard Creek Loop and Buck Mountain Loop Trail. When you arrive at a signed trail junction, turn left on the Buck Mountain Loop Trail. Continue on the trail until you arrive at a trail junction where the Buck Mountain Loop Trail makes a sharp right turn. There is a trail map sign at this junction. Go straight on the dirt road/trail (This is the Rackett Ridge Trail; however, there is no sign telling you that). Walk down this road/trail for about 64 steps. Turn to your right and you will see a short distance off the trail a tall (about 12 feet tall) rotten moss-covered stump. Go about 14 steps to the stump. The box is hidden at the base (ground level) of the stump on its southeast side under chunks of red wood. [NOTICE: It has been reported to me that a huge evergreen limb has fallen on the stump, making it very difficult to see the stump from the trail -- so you need to look carefully for the stump and the box!]
Please, please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag). Please rehide the box well under the chunks of red wood so that it can not be seen from any direction.
