This letterbox can be found in historic Garfield Park which was first established in 1898.
Garfield Park is a presidential park named for the 20th President of the United States James Abram Garfield (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881) He was the second U.S. President to be assassinated (Abraham Lincoln was the first). His term was the second shortest in U.S. history, after William Henry Harrison's. Holding office from March to September of 1881, President Garfield was in office for a total of just six months and fifteen days. He was shot on July 2, 1881 and Alexander Graham Bell devised the first metal detector to locate the bullet in President Garfield's back. Attempts to find the bullet were unsuccessful and he died from his wounds.
To locate park enter Plattsmouth from Hwy 75 by way of Hwy 34 (stop light where you can see KFC/Taco Bell).
Follow Hwy 34 to stop sign.
Turn left onto Chicago Avenue.
Travel until you find 2nd Avenue and turn right.
Follow 2nd Avenue until you pass 5th street and you will see park to the southeast.
Park vehicle on the north side.
Follow sidewalk to newly built bandstand.
Stand at the base of the steps and reach under the bottom step on the right side and the box will be under the step.
