NOTE: This Letterbox has been reported missing by several Letterboxers. Sorry.

General Information

Locate ‘The Esplanade’ on the Charles River as it passes by downtown Boston at the NW end of Arlington St.

The Charles River Esplanade Letterbox is located near the south (upriver) end of the Esplanade.

The Esplanade offers a wonderful loop hike along the Charles River and its three lagoons in ‘America’s Walking City’.

Clues

Access the Charles River Esplanade from the NW end of Arlington St. by crossing the Mugar footbridge over Storrow Drive and proceeding across the park toward the bridge left of the Hatch Shell.

Enjoy the hike along the asphalt trail as you head toward the far end of the Esplanade keeping right, adjacent to the Charles River, toward the 4th (last) footbridge.

Just before crossing the 4th footbridge, leave the asphalt path on the right side and head toward the bench 30 yards SW of the path. The plaque by the bench indicates it was donated in 2001 by Sue & Walter Cahners.

Stand facing the bench and locate the largest tree at a direction of about 2 o’clock toward the end of the point.

Proceed about 12 yards to this large tree.

The ‘Charles River Esplanade' Letterbox is located behind the tree under a number of rocks.

Once you have found the ‘Charles River Esplanade’ Letterbox and signed in, thank you for replacing the Letterbox to ensure the integrity of its hiding place.
