The Seminole Indians of Florida waged the longest war ever fought in US history until Vietnam. They call themselves the Undefeated People because they never surrendered to Federal troops, but negotiated a peace treaty after 7 years of fighting. Some moved to western lands, and others chose to remain in what is now the Everglades. There are eight original clans with a number of related subclans.
In December, 1830 Seminole warriors attacked New Smyrna Beach, burning homes and businesses. During their nighttime flight to escape, settlers crossed the channel at Ponce Inlet on the northern tip of the island where your search will begin.
