This box was reported possibly missing on 9/16/07. Since I can't get there myself to confirm, please be aware of this before heading out. If anyone who has found the box is able to check on it for me, I'd be most grateful for a status update. Thanks!

If you haven't heard the Madison-based public radio show Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know? before, check out http://www.notmuch.com/ and give the show a listen. Your funny bone will thank you!

The Not Much...You? Letterbox

Before you begin, hand these clues to some random person in your audience to read who can or cannot play the quiz...err, find the letterbox. And don't forget your bug spray!

The Four Disclaimers

1. All directions for this Whad'Ya Know? themed letterbox have been painstakingly researched although the clues themselves have not. Ambiguous, misleading or poorly worded clues are par for the course. Seekers who are sticklers for the truth should plant their own letterboxes.

2. What - you wanted me to draw you a map?

3. Persons employed by the International House of Letterboxing are lucky to be working at all, let alone tying up the office trails trying to find the box. Seekers who have stamped in recently should sit on their compasses and let someone else have a chance for a change.

4. All opinions expressed in the Not Much..You? clue are well-reasoned and insightful. Needless to say they are not those of the International House of Letterboxing, its member planters or lackeys. Anyone who says otherwise is itching for a fight. (Or maybe just forgot their bug spray.)

Pick up a copy of the trail map at the Arboretum visitors center or one of the trailheads, then make your way to the pond whose name matches the show logo (its true color - not that silly black they use on the web site!). Find the wetlands boardwalk to its north and follow it to the end, being sure to note which side the last insert bench (the one just before you get to the covered section) is on. After checking out the view, turn around and retrace your steps.

When you get to the trail, turn in that same direction. At the T, head in that direction again. Logs will line the path for a bit. The trail twists into a deep curve, taking it from a SE heading to a westerly one. When it begins to straighten, look for a large tree to the left, about six steps off trail. Jim Packard, tell them what they've won! (Don't get your hopes up; it's not the big kielbasa.)

When you're done, please reseal all baggies and the box itself with care, replace the box and cover it over with the big bark pieces and other random woodland debris so it can't be seen from the trail. You can return the way you came or use your map to help you explore other interesting things in the Arboretum.
