REVISED slightly early 2007! The parking area could be full at certain times of day when the rafters are coming ashore. Other times it can be empty. Where the box is hidden, you are well out of the rafters view, not to worry!

In the Spring of 2005, visitors from Colorado stopped at the water’s edge in Moab to take in the beauty of the red rocks and the mighty Colorado river. Spring run off was exceedingly high and it carried to them an unexpected surprise…a well traveled and worn "stuffed" puppy!

He appeared more like a river rat than a dog! He was missing one of his button eyes, but somehow he seemed of good cheer! At least he brought smiles and camaraderie to the visitors as they imagined all his river stories that had indeed left their marks on the pup! They decided to take him for a ride into town and a good supper at Desert Bistro. Talk of an appropriate name was discussed over dinner and “SNAPPY” was created! Their waiter was kind enough to give them a doggie bag for the newly named pup. Awwww! He even wrote Snappy’s name on the little box to go! Moab treats their visitors well!

Knowing that Moab was his home and all his friends and family lived there, the visitors decided not to take Snappy back to Colorado with them but return Snappy to his home near the river. After a fond farewell and sendoff on a beautiful evening, the visitors went back to Colorado carrying with them forever the story of Snappy!! You can visit Snappy at his home at:

From Colorado:
Take I-70 West and take the turn off to Moab via Hwy 128. Follow 128 to Sorrell River Ranch. Set your odometer; you will go .7 miles from the ranch. Continue towards Moab. You will pass mile marker 17. Look for "Rocky Rapid" road sign and a small bridge. IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE BRIDGE, turn right on dirt road. Head towards the river. Park by Rocky Rapid sign in parking area near the river.

At 190 degrees is a wide trail. You will see a NO CAMPING sign. Head down this road. Very quickly, you will come to a fork. On your left is a green Restoration Area sign and a road hanging to the right, hang right here. Follow road at 220 degrees about 30 paces (1 pace equals 2 steps). There will be another fork hanging to the right at 220 degrees. In front of you crosses a natural wash. Across the wash, and toward the west, is a lone cottonwood tree. Head for this tree. At the tree look due east for the gray big rock. Behind it, Snappy waits for your visit! Hope you brought him a bone! Arf!

Please be sure to rehide well, so Snappy won't float down the river! This box is right along the trail. Be sure to stay on trail and Don't Bust the Crust! Let us know how Snappy is doing!

Hand-made Stamp and journal. Our special thanks to Davey and Valley Girl, because of whom, this box came about!
