Reading is a skill that can be enjoyed throughout a person’s life. It can take you far away on a fantastic voyage or just provide a tranquil escape close to home. Reading can provide the answers or provoke the questions. It can ease the mind or spur the cause. We are lucky enough to live in a country that provides us with the rights and abilities to read and learn. Public libraries are a gift to any community. This box is in honor of those gifts.

The Skowhegan Free Public Library is located on 9 Elm Street, next to the Skowhegan Savings Bank. The library was built in 1889 due in large part to a donation from the former Maine Governor, and Skowhegan resident, Abner Coburn. For more information about this library and its holdings go to http://www.skowhegan.lib.me.us/index.html

Clues:

To find this letterbox you must enter the library and find your way to the plaque that was donated to honor all those from Skowhegan who served during the Civil War. This plaque is being watched over by the Goddess Columbia. To the left of George W. Buffam, tucked behind some greenery is that which you seek.

Once you have stamped in please re-hide this box carefully. While you are visiting please be respectful of the library and its patrons. Many thanks to the librarians for permission to place this box and for all their help and information.
