NOTES:
This letterbox has been placed with the permission of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation. Please do not do anything to jeopardize this.

This is snake (two spotted while hiking to plant letterbox) and bear country, please be vigilant and use common sense while hiking here.

Please familiarize yourself with the park rules and adhere to them. Do not enter any areas posted as private property.

Please be discreet as this is a popular trail.

Hunting season runs from October 15 through February 28 and May. During that time frame hikers are advised to wear bright colors.

This is a circuit hike of Sterling Lake, there are no major climbs, however the trail does get a little hilly on the return trip.

This was Wingfoot’s 50th planted letterbox and 1st in New York State.

Clues
Approaching the Visitor’s Center from parking across road go left picking up blue trail, which you’ll be staying on the entire hike. Trail shortly crosses small bridge giving you your first good look at Sterling Lake. Trail will shortly meets up with road. Take right following blazes. You’ll notice Sterling Furnace off left side of road. Sterling Furnace was built in 1751. Continue following blazes along road, eventually blazes will lead you down woods road. Yellow trail meets up with blue trail. Take right along merged blue/yellow trail. Eventually you’ll come to a brown sandy beach on the right of the trail. This is the half way point and a great place to rest. Once you leave the beach staying on the merged blue/yellow trail taking it the way you didn’t come you’ll shortly come to a land bridge. After crossing bridge you’ll go under power lines. Immediately on the left of the trail will be a blazed tree indicating to make a turn. From that tree one pace at 300 degrees to a bigger tree. Behind bigger tree, under a rock is what you seek.

After stamping in please rehide box where you found it, completely hidden from view.

From here you can continue along the blue trail back to the Visitor’s Center; however it is a bit hillier then the way you came.
