** UPDATE 8/11/08 ****

This letterbox was reported potentially missing by another letterboxer. I will check on it when my schedule permits and change status accordingly. But if you do come across it please let me know!

This letterbox is part of an ongoing series, Whispers of the Past. I have always been fascinated with cemetaries. From discovering your personal history, to getting a glimpse of life in a bygone era, a short stroll through the peacefullness and tranquility of a cemetary can be not only educational, but theraputic as well. This series visits several cemetaries that are steeped in history and culture. Gravestones are works of art, and nature is in full abundance.

Please note that although they are located in cemetaries, these boxes are NOT located on or around graves. I would ask that you respect the families who have loved ones in these cemetaries by taking time to just enjoy the peace of these locations.

There is NO stamp pad or pencils in this box, so you'll need to bring your own.

Directions to St. Cyril's Cemetary
From 17 (either direction) take route 201
Take the Riverside Drive exit to your right. This will bring you to a small traffic circle. Follw the circle around and get off on Riverside Drive.
Continue past Davis College and the Susquehanna Nursing Center.
St. Cyril's Cemetary will be on your RIGHT just before the Binghamton City town line sign

Directions to "Whispers of the Past"
*Enter the cemetary through the middle gate. Continue driving down the narrow paved roadway until it comes to a T.
*Head north at the T, and drive until the road takes a sharp turn to the right. There is a very small gravel area ahead of you, next to the bushes. Park here.
*Heading west, walk to the chain link fence. This area is a little overgrown, so you may have trouble seeing it in the summer/fall months.
*As you approach the end of the fence nearest the river, you will see a small dirt path to the left of the fence, leading into the woods. Take this path
*THERE IS A VERY STEEP DROP TO YOUR LEFT ON THIS PATH ... BE CAREFUL TO WATCH WHERE YOU WALK AND DON'T FALL OFF!
*16 paces along this path you will see a smallish tree with a double trunk. Behind this tree is a fallen log, and under the log is "Whispers of the Past"

Please rehide carefully ... if you need extra rocks there are some by where you parked your car that you can use.
