To the trailhead:
Drive past Trillium Lake Campground to Road 2656 and stay to the right onto Road 2656-309. The trailhead is on the right, clearly marked The Salmon River Trail about 3 1/2 miles past the road junction.
Clues:
The Salmon River Trail begins at the top of a hill. Begin your hike by descending the trail through old growth forest, the remains of many forest fires, and the rebirth of the forest.
Follow this trail to the first wooden bridge over the stream. Just on the other side of the bridge look up to your right to a large stump. The box is hidden in the smaller stump behind this larger stump at the base of a tree.
