After the second time it went missing I decided to give up on this location. It's just too busy. But there are many other boxes to find in and around McMinnville.
One of McMinnville's bigger city parks on the north end of town is Wortman Park, sandwiched between Lafayette Ave on the east and McDaniel Rd on the West. You can park on either side for this hunt.
On both sides of the park you'll find well-used picnic/BBQ areas and playgrounds. In the middle is a green space with a paved walking path and sparse trees all around. Adjoining the two sides is a wood bridge that spans a drainage ditch running down the middle of the park. Start your search at the bridge.
Get off the bridge at the west end and turn to your left. You're going to follow this bank of the drainage ditch. Walk and count nine trees along the west bank and soon you'll come to Frisbee Golf Marker #8. These markers are large pipes stuck in the ground with miniature carousels of wires and chains on top.
The carousel on top of marker #8 will only turn a couple of inches but make sure it is turned as far as it will go to the right. Now turn around and stand with your back directly to the red sponsorship plaque. Your view from this position should show a children's play area at a 45 degree angle off to your right, and the end of a brown fence enclosing the local neighbors at 45 degrees off to your left. Take a path right down the middle of these two markers and count 27 paces.
At that point you'll run into a tree that is hollowed out inside (hint: there should be a drain pipe in the ditch directly to your left). Inside the tree under some debris, you'll find the Wortman's Favorite Animal Letterbox!
The park is well-used so please be discreet and re-hide the box well. Check to make sure you can't see it from the top or any sides. Let me know when you've found it. Thanks! tyrarachele@comboard.com
