Easy - about a ¼ mile of walking.
Botetourt Center at Greenfield Industrial Park in Daleville (Near Roanoke) Virginia.
From the North:
Traveling south on I-81, take first exit 150B. Turn right onto US Route 220 North. Travel 3.5 miles and turn left onto International Parkway (Route 839).
From the South:
Traveling north on I-81, take second Exit 150B, stay in the right hand lane on the exit ramp, go past the TravelCenters of America (truck stop) facility. At the stoplight, turn right onto US Route 220 North. Travel 3.5 miles and turn left onto International Parkway.
From the East:
Traveling West on US Route 460, turn right onto Alternate US Route 220 (Cloverdale Road). After approximately 5 miles, go straight through the traffic light and continue in US Route 220 North. Travel 3.5 miles and turn left onto International Parkway.
On International Road. Follow road out to the pond. Take a hike on the gravel path around pond.
Walk over the bridge. Sit five times, and then count five planted deciduous trees. Count two little planted cedars and then stop at the first deciduous seedling after. Turn left and go straight up hill to the forest edge (staying in line with the little planted tree). Walk the way a deer would and follow for about 10 steps until it intersects with another deer path. Turn right and follow path until you discover a dead tree in your way. This dead tree points the way to a grassy clearing. Go uphill (about 65-70 steps) to the near middle of the grassy clearing. Look around and you will find a poor dead cedar all turned gray. Walk toward the cedar skeleton and stand in front of it. To your left is a living cedar that holds the secret of the Howl’n Cedars.
Have fun and enjoy the frogs, ducks and birds. This is a beautiful place to watch the sunset! You may think negative of an industrial park, yet this area of the park has a wetland restoration project going on and you can see many species of wildlife all year long. It is worth the trip even if you don’t find the letterbox. But you will because it is not hard!
