Pulling this box to allow logbook to dry out. Please besure to close box tightly to avoid this problem in the future.

The “Stripes” letterbox is located in “The Lost City of Tryon”
Now what and where is the lost City of Tryon you ask. Well good question. In 1797, Salmon Tryon, a land speculator founded the city of Tyron in hopes of creating a commercial settlement that had the ability to use the Irondequoit Creek for trade. A store was built that bartered with the Seneca Indians near Indian Landing an ancient Indian trail leading to the Mississippi River. Blacksmith's shop, shoe factory, distillery, tavern, tannery, large gristmill, shipyard, school, and warehouses are all built. Hopes of developing it into a thriving port and metropolis were thwarted by superior facilities on the Genesee River, leaving a ghost town after 1818.

· Traveling North on Landing Road you will cross over Blossom Rd and enter Ellison Park.
· Almost immediately inside the park, you will see a historic marker for the City of Tryon.
· Continue on until you get to the first parking lot on the right. You will see the sign for the frisbee Golf course. Park in this lot.
· Once you exit your car, start walking down the hill, through the frisbee golf course until you see hole 17.
· Continue a little further down the hill and you will see a walking path. Turn right and start walking the path.
· Shortly, off to the left, you will see a stone landing. This is the top of a set of stairs. I imagine these stairs where part of the city complex when it was up and operating and allowed a quick way to the water of Irondequoit Creek.
· Carefully, descend the stairs. They are very old and full of damp leaves so be extremely careful.
· Once to the bottom of the stairs you will see a large open grassy meadow. Take a walk up the side of the creek (keep it on your left) and you will come to an open area that has a choice of four paths to continue on.
· The first path would take you straight ahead. Do not take this one but count over 3 additional paths to the right.
· You should now see a very tall pine tree between path # 3 and 4.
· Once you spot that tree, it sort of looks like it would make a great telephone pole, count over 3 more large pine trees.
· Past the third pine tree walk into the woods approximately 7 steps. Look around very carefully for a short tree stump with a very large piece of bark leaning up against it.
· Go over to it and remove the bark.
· Congratulations ! You have now found our “Stripes” letterbox in the Lost City of Tryon. ENJOY
· Please close the letterbox securely and recover it with the large piece of bark and any other bark or branches you feel necessary to keep safe and well hidden so it will not be found accidentally.

Note: You will need to bring your own stamp pad and pen
