This series draws inspiration from the art of ancient civilizations. It will be fun to add hand-carved images of objects that appeal to me and be educational as well. I will purposely leave out details of each subject to add to the surprize when you see the image and read about it in the log book.

Distance: 1 mile round trip
Elevation Gain: 137 feet
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate (a little climb towards the end)

Clues for #1:
From the Finch Arboretum parking lot head 270 degrees and cross the stream over the little bridge. Keep heading in the same direction going generally up hill until you hit the gravel service road. At the 'Y' stay to the right and you'll find that the service road generally parallels Sunset Highway in a SW direction. Notice the huge boulders in the trees just right of the trail.

You will eventually come to a sign that says "Flowering Crapapples" with a bathroom (open in the summer) to the right. Leave the service road and head 220 degrees through the crapapple 'orchard'. The low areas can be soggy after watering. Find a wide dirt trail heading into the woods slightly uphill. This gradually narrows but continue straight still heading generally SW. You will come to a triangular trail juncture with a giant Elderberry bush. Again stay straight and the trail narrows some more, climbs a little steeper and turns to the right. You are heading 285 degrees and are getting close. You will see a 3 foot high boulder just off the trail to your right with a small pine in front and a tall Serviceberry to its left. The LB is in a crack in the boulder. Enjoy and carefully replace so that casual observers will not spy the box if they should inspect the boulder.

Please email me if any problems.
