Location: Swansea Village Park
Time: approximately 1/2 hour
Length: approximately 1 mile round trip, some small hills, but mostly level ground

7/23/07 - This box is back but in a slightly different location to protect it from tree climbers.

Your hike begins at the Swansea Dam in the parking lot behind Joseph Case Junior High School (corner of Gardners Neck Road and Stevens Road). Your journey will take you through a very small portion of Swansea’s Village Park where the town’s history began. Though your journey will not take you to Abram’s Rock, you may want to consider staying a while and exploring the area. There are many large puddingstone rock formations that can offer beautiful scenic views at different times of the year. Please beware of broken glass on the rock formations and paint balls, as the area is sometimes used by partiers and for paint ball games. The trail can also be slightly muddy after a rainstorm. The journey begins behind the Tech-Ed building, located to the rear of the Jr. High. The trail begins at the two “stop” rocks. Follow the trail along the edge of the water, passing along the length of the school. Continue on the trail as it bends to the right about 90 degrees and merges with another trail that comes from the east end of the school. Turn left on to this new trail and pass through the yellow gates. The trail continues with the water to your left. If you’re lucky, you may see several swans enjoying a leisurely float. You will hit a triple fork in the trail. Take the middle fork that heads up a hill to the soccer field (built in memory of “Officer Bob”). Go around the field to the far left corner near the water to find another trailhead, the water still to your left. Head down the hill and follow the trail for a ways, always keeping the water to your left, until you come across the second dam and a very large pond. Before you get to the 2nd dam and the pond, look for a quartet tree in the middle of the trail. Look up, look down, look outside, look inside. Somewhere here your treasure hides. Good luck! Remember to always keep the water to the right on your way back so you don’t get lost!

NOTE: Swan Hike 2 geocache is now located nearby.
