Paranoid Pete the pirate was always concerned that someone would find his treasure so one night he slipped away from his mates and sailed up the great Mississippi. After about 2000 miles he thought it safe to begin looking for a place to stash the treasure.
He happened upon a large island and disembarked at the present site of the Interpretive Center in what is now known as Fort Snelling SP. From the large parking lot, follow the trail to Pike Island. When you cross the foot bridge onto the island, you will go straight past the 3 Islands sign and follow the Hiking Club trail.
Follow the trail as it parallels the Mississippi all the way to "Zebulon", and relax and enjoy the view from the memorial bench. Continue the trail around the island, with the Minnesota river on your left. You will eventually come to a side trail to the right, which branches off at a bench under a mulberry tree.
Look down the side trail and head toward the large tree on the right where the trail curves left. While standing next to the tree looking down the trail notice the fallen tree accross the path with its "head: raised. Pete's treasure is hidden in the crotch of this fallen tree.
Note that Pete was either overly cautious or overly stupid since he left his map with the treasure!
