ZUMBRO RIVER WALK LETTERBOX

Difficulty – Easy
20 Minute walk (roundtrip)

*** 8/16/07 - Box is missing 2nd time - No replacement is planned ***

Rochester's 60 miles of recreational trails that are a convenient way to include physical activities such as inline-skating, biking, running, walking or walking the dog ( dog’s must be on a leash and you must clean up after your dog). These trails are not maintained during the winter!

THE CLUES

Find the Olmsted Historical Center to begin this adventure. Take highway xx ( where xx is the number of years celebrated on the silver anniversary) west of Rochester. Turn left on to Mayowood Road. Keep an eye out for the number 4010 which will mark the start of one of the many city trails in and around Rochester. Park your car (there is parking for about 20 cars on the shoulder) and begin your adventure! Please observe the hours of NO parking. If you cross a bridge on Mayowood Road turn back because you have driven to far!

Start on the trail heading northeast. The trail will come to a T. Continue on the trail going to the right or take a short spell and enjoy the swing before you start your trek!!. As you travel down this path take time to enjoy the sights. If you see 5.5 you know you are still on the right path. You also will see a split rail fence which if you lean over you will see the Zumbro River but you are not there yet. Keep on walking until you find a place that you might want to sit a spell before we start to hike off the paved path. When you have rested, turn around and look for the big fir tree right behind where you are sitting. There is a worn path in the weeds to the left of the tree. Follow it until it comes to a T and then take the dirt path to the right. When the trail comes to a Y, go to the left and go into the woods. Follow this dirt path until you come to where a path veers off to the left and you will see a tree which has formed an arch over the path -- but don’t go that way – continue going straight counting 15 steps (remember I am only 5ft 5 tall) and then look to the right for a ‘holey’ tree. What you seek will be at the base of this tree. You might want to poke a stick in the tree before reaching in just in case there might be critters in there! Try not to push the box in deeper though! Please be sure to reseal baggies and box carefully so that they stay dry and rehide boxes in their original location, completely hidden from view. Please put rock back in hole so that animals won't drag the box away. Cover rock with bark and leaves so the hiding spot is not too obvious! Happy Hunting!

Bring your own stamp pad. Suggested color: blue for water!
