Bend, OR is located in the central part of the state. Once you get to Bend, go to The Old Mill District and find the Farewell Bend Park. It is up river from The Shops at the Old Mill. Park at the Park. Keep the river on your right and head up stream. You'll be on sidewalks for the first bit. You'll go under the street and see the beginning of a trail. This is the Deschutes River Trail. You have about 1.5 miles to go to get to the letterbox. The trail is easy, well maintained and marked. This trail is shared by mountain bikes for part of the way but the bike portion ends about a hundred yards short of where the letterbox is hidden. If you are walking/hiking you can make this a loop trail by coming back on the other side of the river. Bikes are prohibited from the trail on the other side.
Ok, so you are hiking on the river trail. I was gonna give some landmarks and stuff but as long as you stay on the main trail and keep heading up river you will come to the South Canyon Bridge which is a foot bridge to get you to the other side. (Don't be confused by the bridge that crosses over the inlet, or maybe it's an outlet, for the canal which will parallel the river.) When you reach the South Canyon Bridge stop/stand about 5-6' from it but lined up with the center. Turn to about 7 o' clock. See the line of big boulders kind of settled along the trail side you just walked down? The letterbox is tucked under the last one in the continuous line on the downhill (river) side.
Good luck and remember all the same safety rules, regs and policies regarding safe letterboxing.
