St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church
West of Hunter, NY on Rte. 23A

Technically this box is in Jewett, but I think it will mainly be accessed from Hunter. I love driving by this church because it is so unique, and if you visit the website (http://www.brama.com/stjohn/) you can find pictures of both the outdoor and indoor architecture. On the rainy day I planted this, there was a wonderful wood smell from the buildings.

Please do not attempt this box during church services or when people are around (I don’t want to jeopardize having the box on church property).

From Hunter, travel 5.7 miles on Route 23A to Ukraine Rd. Park in the lot near the message board. Head through the entrance way and make your way up to the Bell Tower. From the door of the tower, enter the woods at 90 degrees. As soon as you enter the woods, look for a lone white birch almost due north. Walk to the birch, then take 15 steps at 40 degrees. In a nest of rocks on the south side of the tree is a two-dimensional replica of the church.
