Rip Van Winkle Lake
Tannersville, NY

**Box found 11/24 but completely waterlogged. box will be pulled and hopefully replanted in the spring.**

I’d always thought this lake was just called Tannersville Lake. I have a Rip Van Winkle box I need to plant, and if I’d realized what this lake was named, I might have hidden it here. The daughter of one of my best friends participated in a fishing derby here and was very excited about catching fish, so this box is hidden especially for her.

Rip Van Winkle Lake is on Lake Rd. in Tannersville. There is a small beach, and as you are facing the lake, look to your right to find a wooden bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the road that goes along the lake. Ignore the first two right turns. After a few minutes of walking, you will see a path on the left that leads to the water. You may want to check out the view of the lake. Rejoin the main path and continue to the next right. Walk 34 steps up the hill. There should be a multi-trunked tree on your right. Look to the left, and spot a thick pine. Directly behind this pine is Fishing Derby, hidden in the highest part of the stone wall. You should only need to move one rock to catch this fish.

I don’t know how far the road continues, but feel free to continue on, or return to your car.
