The approach to these trails takes you on a wide grassy, poison ivy rich area. I would advise the wearing of long pants, socks and good hiking shoes.

Same starting point as Spiritual Armor.
Park on Nod Way and head for the white-blazed Gavin Trail behind Hunter's Run, passing the memorial bench on your left.

Bring your own ink. Logbook in last box only.

This portion of the hike begins at the big rock where you pick up your “shoes of preparation”.

Continue on blue, crossing over a stone wall. Don’t you love these big old trees?!
When you come to the red double double blaze, go down the bank and cross the stream (over the log bridge or otherwise). At the large downed tree on the right, make your way to the far side of its rock-laden base. Examine the rocks on the trunk side of the base.

Continue on red. Turn away from the busy road and head uphill. Notice a large grey-spotted rock on the left. Look right to a flatter rock with moss on it. Explore the far side of “mossy” looking for a small rock door.

Continue on red. WOW! Steep hill ahead! Glad we’re not going there! Red leads us downhill now and eventually to another stream crossing with a pretty little natural falls. Now we are back to blue. Let’s continue to the right. Pass a large stone depository. Cross the streambed again. Look for a very large dead tree with its base uphill. Examine the north side of the tree where its elbow rests on the ground.

Continue on blue to its junction with white and follow white to the right to the open grassy area. Retrace your steps to your car. As an alternative, instead of walking back through the grassy area, I turned left at the end of the black plastic onto the road in Hunter’s Run, walked downhill to Nod Way and my car. In fact, this might be a good way to begin the hike and avoid the poison ivy - park on Nod Way and walk up Gatewood to the 2nd set of mailboxes. Take a left onto the grassy area and hike uphill to the right.
