Davisdale “Pride” Letterbox
This is a family friendly letterbox. From the parking lot to the letterbox is only .25 miles. Kids will enjoy this one! This is also a BYOIP (bring your own inkpad) box. I couldn't getone to fit.
Directions:
From I-70 take the Midway Exit onto Hwy 40. Drive Southwest down Hwy 40 for about 15 miles until you cross a bridge and get into the floodplains. The Davisdale Conservation Area is a turn off on the right marked be a wooden sign. Park and grab a map.
After you go around the gate you will cross the Katy trail. Go across the little bump in the road and walk to the cement bridge. Lay on your tummy and look under the bridge for red-eared sliders and fish. We have even seen bullfrogs. After your stop continue on the trail past two fields. The first a sunflower field and the second I am not sure of. Of course if you are searching for this letterbox in the late Fall and Winter you will just pass two empty fields. Continue until the trail comes to a V. Take the left trail and trek up a hill for a bit. On your right side you will eventually come to an odd family of trees. A cluster of four, a Mulberry tree and two giant Black Walnuts guarding a baby Elm. Behind this family is a lonely Maple. You will find the Pride Letterbox snuggled on the right side of the tree under the forests’ carpet. Enjoy!
Before you leave explore the area. There is a rich habitat for all kinds of critters. And on your way back to your car go west on the Katy. I promise you will see a colorful collection of birds.
Be mindful! This trail has lots of poison ivy and seed ticks.
