To get to the park: From Hwy 99W which runs North/South through McMinnville, turn onto Baker Creek Rd (at the Lumberman's). At the first stop light, turn right onto N Baker St. The park is about 1/4 mile down the road on the left.

This is a beautiful wooded spot with lots of wildlife and benches to sit and relax. Trails are easy for children or people of all ages. There is a lot of poison oak so be careful.

To the Letterbox: At the south end of the parking lot is the entrance to the walking trail. Head straight down the path, following the sign for the Ampitheater until you reach the first wooden bridge. Go off to the right, staying on the upper path, and take a look at the ampitheater. Then return to the wooden bridge.

While you cross the bridge, take time to listen to the birds in the abandoned orchard. Continue on the path until you come to a sign pointing the way to the South Loop Trail. Turn left at the sign. Stay on the path with Baker Creek off to your right and cross a second wood bridge. On this same path you will come to two wood signs marking the two ends of the South Loop Trail. At the second sign you'll take a left away from the South Loop Trail. Avoid the little paths. Stay left until you see steps leading down to a dock.

Go down to the dock and get a view of the pond. See any frogs, geese or ducks? Turn around and walk back up the steps. You are at a 5-way trail pass. Make a gentle left on a trail that winds up the hill. If you are counting the trails from left to right 1-2-3-4-5, this would be number two. Follow this trail, possibly an abandoned service road, up and up. You'll see the edge of the woods at the top.

At the end of the trail are two rabbit hills with a field beyond them. Just before the hills on your right are two clusters of hazelnut (filbert) trees. At the base of the first cluster (farthest from the field) under some bark you will find the box.

To get back to the parking lot, return to the main trail and go right to finish the loop. Be sure to look for the Rainbow Tree.

Please send us an e-mail and let us know you've found it. Have fun! -Murray7 & Willby
