Nikola Tesla was an inventive genius who gave us, among many other things, world-changing inventions such as AC power and radio. In 1899 and 1900, Tesla spent some time in Colorado Springs. There, he built an experimental station where Foote Ave is today. Electrical discharges from this station reached around 12 million volts, caused dense fogs and shocked horses through their metal shoes half a mile away. The work done at this station was described by Tesla as his greatest achievement and proved (at least to Tesla) that transmission of electrical power through the air was possible on a global scale.
