This letterbox is planted in honor of Lightnin’ Bug’s coined term, “SPOR” (suspicious pile of rocks). This box is found at a fascinating park at the corner of Fox Gap Road and Quaker Plains Road in Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County. The park itself could be described as a suspicious pile of rocks. You’ll see why when you go.

For more information on the park, see page 144 of the book Weird Pennsylvania or go to gro.ellicmuloc.www (reversed for Google’s sake). Park on Quaker Plains Road, and enter through the metal “Infinity Gate.”

From the Infinity Gate, find a stone building with pointed roof at 20*. This is the St. Columba Chapel. Walk to the chapel, and head inside. Take the time to meditate if you like, and grab a map too.

When you’re finished in the chapel, turn right and head down the hill. Follow the trail over a wooden bridge and up a hill. Walk through “Thor’s Gate” (a giant torii of sorts, or a giant pi, if you prefer). Continue straight for a bit to the labyrinth on the left. (You’re now technically on the property of egdirkriK Retreat Center. The labyrinth was a joint effort of the park and the retreat center.) Take the time to walk the labyrinth, a wonderful meditative tool, if you like.

When you’re finished at the labyrinth, head back toward Thor’s Gate. Just before reaching it, turn left and follow the trail at about 60*. Stop at the first large stone on your left.

From this stone, walk twenty paces at 200*. Between a three-trunked and two-trunked tree, you’ll find a suspicious pile of rocks. Meditate upon this to find what you seek.

Please make sure you rehide the box well! Contact me at notime@fast.net with concerns.

Note: Silent Doug’s PA Capitol Tile 146: Cherries is located quite near to here.
