7/14/08--Bring bug spray...they are brutal!

You will need a compass, stamp pad and a pen, sign the log at box 5!

This series is located at Grand Woods Park in Delta Township off Willow Highway. This is a great family park with a big frisbee golf course and several play areas. The 5th box has a stamp and log.

To start, go to the far east parking lot. You will see a playground, softball field and a pavillion on one side of the parking lot. On the other side of the lot, you will see a large park map, a field and the wood chipped trailhead leading into the woods.

To find the first box, from the trail marker, walk approximately the number of steps from the first letter of the second word in the parks name over some small boulders. From here, look north off the beaten path for a large maple tree with a hollow at its base.

On to box two. Continue on the path beyond the power lines. Before entering the woods, look down to see 4 large roots on the path. From the 4th root look NE towards the river and follow the side trail. Here you'll find a "beached" beech which holds box number two.

Box three...Trudge on the path some more and in time you'll notice three sizeable maples protected from the river by the path. Just before the third maple, look for a fallen tree that runs along the path for 20 yards. You'll know its the right log because a smaller tree intersects over...at the end of the 60-footer underneath you'll find box number three.

On to box four and five. This wouldn't be the Grand Wood Series without some great views so take some time to see the park.

Box four...walk down the path past a parking area, past a pond, and past frolf course #8. #8 will be the course with the row of red pines. Leave the frolfers behind and continue down the path to a clearing. There will be a picnic table and a fire pit for chilly nights. To the left of the clearing you'll see a circle of young trees and bushes. In the brush find a fallen log and uncover box four.

Box five...continue on past the painted tree to the next clearing. Find the park map, from here look SE. Across the clearing in the woods a few yards back you should spy 3 ash trees medium in size. You will know you have the right group when you see a dead tree leaning in between the group against the largest of the trees. Box 5 can be found at the base of one of the trio's. Be sure to hide it well and sign the log.
