Founded in 1938, the Desert Botanical Garden is the world's only botanical garden whose original mission was to focus solely on desert plants. Today, it holds one of the world’s finest collections of cacti, succulents and other desert flora. The 50 acres of outdoor exhibits at Desert Botanical Garden include 139 rare, threatened and endangered plant species, and a butterfly pavillion.
Five themed trails at Desert Botanical Garden each emphasize a different aspect of the Sonoran desert, with interactive exhibits. The trails are short and mostly flat, and the Main Trail is paved in brick.Observe many birds that build their homes in the Garden. All are wheel chair accessible. There is also a patio café and gift shop.

DIRECTIONS: From I-10 take the 202 – Red Mountain highway and get off on exit 4 – Van Buren. Turn left on Galvin and head northward through Papago Park. Go past the zoo and follow the sign for the Botanical Garden, which will be on the right. Park at the back by the bus loading section.

CLUES: The sidewalk begins near the bus loading section and goes to the entrance of the Botanical Garden. Start on the sidewalk at the end closest to the bus loading section. You will walk past sign pointing the way to the Botanical Garden entrance, and then there will be one of an iron light post (one of many). Just before this first iron lamp post, take the small path to a Saguaro on the left. (Please be very discreet –look around before going down, it’s a very busy area. There is a security patrolman who advises to stay on the sidewalk. Take the box to your car to stamp in, then replace quickly.) Next to the Saguaro, there is a creosote bush, where the box is hidden under rocks. Please rehide well.
