LUNAGIRL'S HIDEAWAY

The hike for Lunagirl's Hideaway is a pleasant one with occasional hill climbs and seasonal wet and/or muddy spots. Beware of bugs, poison ivy, and other woodland hazards. If you're lucky you may spy some deer or a wild turkey or two.

In a magical palace in the sky there lived a beautiful princess named Lunagirl. She lived there with her father, the Moon. Lunagirl would often get upset at her father because of his habit of leaving the palace as he does every month or so to relax from his duties of lighting the nighttime sky. Lunagirl pouted, "I don't like it when my father leaves the world all dark. I'll show him. I'm going to run away!" She flew off to a place where she thought her father would never find her.

The place she flew off to was known as the land of Auburn Hills. She knew that this was where the Center of Nature was, in a place that the locals referred to as Hawk Woods. When she arrived there, she was disappointed to find that the Center of Nature was just a small building, and one directly visible from the sky. She decided to hide in the woods nearby where she hoped her father couldn't find her. She ran past an oaken memory of Barbara and a crimson memory of Walter. She passed the small house of a forest dweller, who wasn't home at the time. After passing many towering oaks, she came to a fork in the trail and decided to follow the woodland trail to the pond where she could stop for a drink. She was "itching to know" what lie ahead, and she knew that her plans needed a "major overhaul" when she reached the edge of the forest. She followed the path to the right around the lake. Lunagirl decided not to go back into the forest because she knew there were baby boulder nests there, and their mothers would get very upset if they knew intruders were nearby. Instead she meandered through the giant grasses behind the lake. Walking slightly westward, she was faced with a choice: MB, SB, or WT? Lunagirl decided MB was the way to go.

Traveling into the marshlands, Lunagirl met her friend, Woodplanks. He often would come by to help her when she was traveling in places where she could get into trouble. "Lunagirl, hordes of tiny stinging demons live here in the marshes, why don't you climb on my back and I'll carry you where you need to go." "Oh, thank you, Woodplanks!", she replied, and the two continued on their way. Woodplanks carried Lunagirl through the marshlands, past a dead end, and over several invisible babbling brooks. On they went, but Woodplanks must have been getting tired, because after a while he would disappear and reappear, leaving Lunagirl to travel on her own. On and on she traveled down the long trail. Woodplanks would come back now and then to help Lunagirl cross a stream, climb down a steep hill, or step over a muddy spot. Soon she reached a crossing. "Since the sign says there is nothing straight ahead, I'll go to the right", and she did. The path became dark, and Lunagirl began to miss her father. She was "scared stiff" and quickened her pace. Then she heard something whisper "to eat or not" and hoped it wasn't talking about her. She continued walking briskly past a "shadowy figure" on her right and to her relief spotted a friendly boulder under a rootbeer tree. Ahead she saw a bench (or, rather, where it looked like a bench used to be) and decided that since she had reached the end of the trail, this was a good place to stop and hide. She was startled to see three fallen soldiers on her right. Hearing footsteps coming and fearing it was the shadowy figure, she ran to the middle soldier and hid under his feet. If you are careful and diligent, you may still find her there.

From Lunagirl's Hideaway the return trip should be obvious and much shorter than doubling back, but of course you are welcome to explore the beautiful trails of Hawk Woods. Please be wary of non-letterboxers when searching, and please be sure to rehide the box well. Thanks, and we hope you enjoy your quest!
