This box is officially listed as missing. It may actually still be there, but last year's floods have altered the area to the point that the clues are completely irrelevant. All the paths and most of the trees are gone. In addition good section of the area has been cleared out via bulldoer to the point that none of the reference points are recognizable. I will be recarving, and hiding it in a new location with updated clues so please check back!!!
This letterbox is part of an ongoing series, Whispers of the Past. I have always been fascinated with cemetaries. From discovering your personal history, to getting a glimpse of life in a bygone era, a short stroll through the peacefullness and tranquility of a cemetary can be not only educational, but theraputic as well. This series visits several cemetaries that are steeped in history and culture. Gravestones are works of art, and nature is in full abundance.
Please note that although they are located in cemetaries, these boxes are NOT located on or around graves. I would ask that you respect the families who have loved ones in these cemetaries by taking time to just enjoy the peace of these locations.
There is NO stamp pad or pencils in this box, so you'll need to bring your own.
Riverhurst is a VERY busy cemetary, and until you get to the area near the box, you will be VERY exposed! Please be discrete ... You may also want to wear shoes that can handle a lot of mud, especially after it's rained.
Directions to Riverhurst Cemetary
From 17, take any exit that will lead you to 17C and head towards Endwell. Riverhurst Cemetary is on 17C, across from the Kings Inn.
Directions to Whispers of the Past:
1. Drive through the cemetary gates. Ahead of you is JOHNSON, with a circular drive going around it. Drive on the right side of the building.
2. Take a left at Section H (Infant section)
3. Take another left when the road comes to a T.
4. Continue driving on this road until you see a building straight ahead of you, with a gravel path leading to it. You can park by the building.
5. You will see a chain on the right hand side of the building, with a path behind. Walk next to the building along this path.
6. As you emerge behind the building, you will see a grassy path to your right, leading down to the riverbank. Follow this path down the hill, and continue walking alongside the river.
7. Keep an eye out for a small path and clearing to your right, leading into some trees. When you spot this, stand directly between the two trees that mark the entrance to the path.
8. Continue 40 steps down the new path.
9. You should now be even with a VERY VERY VERY large fallen stump to your left. At the base of this stump behind some big rocks is Whispers of the Past.
Please rehide carefully, and happy hunting!!! This is probably one of my favorite locations that I've hidden a box in, since it's so unexpected. When you clear that building, you'll understand ...
