This letterbox is part of an ongoing series, Whispers of the Past. I have always been fascinated with cemetaries. From discovering your personal history, to getting a glimpse of life in a bygone era, a short stroll through the peacefullness and tranquility of a cemetary can be not only educational, but theraputic as well. This series visits several cemetaries that are steeped in history and culture. Gravestones are works of art, and nature is in full abundance.

Please note that although they are located in cemetaries, these boxes are NOT located on or around graves. I would ask that you respect the families who have loved ones in these cemetaries by taking time to just enjoy the peace of these locations.

There is NO stamp pad or pencils in this box, so you'll need to bring your own.

Spring Forest Cemetary also welcomes dogs ... all they ask is that you clean up after any messes. When we were planting the box, we saw several people walking their dogs through the cemetary.

Directions to Spring Forest Cemetary:
From 17E: Take the Front Street Exit (72). At the end of the ramp, turn right. Take another IMMEDIATE right onto Prospect Street. Follow Prospect Street until you reach the light at the intersection of Prospect and Mygatt Street. Turn left onto Mygatt Street. Spring Forest Cemetary is on your right.

From 17W: Take the Mygatt Street Exit (72). Turn onto Mygatt Street. The cemetary will be on your right, just past the intersection of Mygatt and Prospect Street.

Directions to Whispers of the Past Letterbox:
1. Drive through the entrance to the cemetary. If you want a longer hike, you can park just inside the gate at the small indentation in the road and walk straight from here. If not, then continue straight, but stay in your car.
2. Eventually you will come to a Y in the road, where the right hand path continues to be paved, and the left hand path is gravel. Follow the gravel path. If you're still driving, you will see an immediate area shaped like a triangle where you can park.
3. Follow the path behind the chained gate. The chain is there only to keep cars out.
4. Pass the Hall angel on your left and keep walking straight. You don't need to see this to find the box, I just think it's a gorgeous gravestone and wanted to point it out. :)
5. As you near the end of the path, you'll see another fork. Take the right hand grassy path to the CLARK stone.
6. Starting directly in front of CLARK, take 10 paces down a very small hill to a dirt clearing by a fence.
7. Face the fence, and walk approximately 8 paces towards it.
8. To your immediate left is a large tree with a LARGE horizontal limb overhead. At the base of this tree, under a pile of rocks, is Whispers of the Past.

The hiding place for this box is double-sided ... please be sure that the box is hidden from BOTH sides before you leave. If you wish to continue your walk, you can go back up the grassy path and continue around the hill to the main part of the cemetary. You'll see a small path that leads straight up the hill as well. If you're really energetic, this has a nice path with beautiful views of both the Cemetary and the surrounding city.
