*finally made the trip up to this box and sadly it's missing...
We'll replace it in the spring. To bad that notebook had so many great Stamps:(

*** Still going! Wow I made a trip to the letterbox and was amazed to see its still alive, Thanks to everyone who has patched up the box and kept it alive the last few years!****

Kaaterskill Hotel Site, Haines Falls, NY
4 miles and 250 ft elevation gain – Easy (suitable for children)

Head to North-South Lake Park. Just before The Park entrance is Schutt Road. Turn here and pull into the parking area.
grab some snacks bring some water and saddle up the kids=)

Follow the trail (clearly marked).
As you pass the registration box look to the left- you will see a bit of graffiti from the past carved into a huge boulder. From here begins a gentle climb.

At the top of this trail a mile or so from the registration box you will come to a split. Be sure to stay to the left and not the right or you'll find yourself at the Mountain house site...

As you follow the path gently around you’ll find another split, stay straight or the box you seek will never be found. (Notice the old foundation on your left).

Continue on to The small pond. Find the giant wet rock and stand in the center. Now look across and find the three pronged birch. go to it...

as you walk along the earthen dam check out the old water storage tank on your right. (Keep an eye on the kids!)

With your back to the tree shoot 220 degrees, now take 38 paces.

Three large boulders are in your way... See the bucket? look underneath. You will find what you seek.

This is a temporary stamp the permanent stamp is done and should be placed shortly! (Bring a pen)

A special treat to the first finder-
originally from the "East of the Hudson" LB./Jan 2006 - We found it in the Pine maze LB. /Feb 2006 - Let us know where you place it!

6/17/08 - Permanent Grumpy Stamp now in place!
Thanks to Budster for the Bandaid and pens=)
