THIS BOX IS GONE
This is the 2nd Floyd Collins Sand Cave Box. The first was stolen. This one is a new hand carved stamp in a new location at Sand Cave.

This stamp is located at Sand Cave, which is at the boundary of Mammoth Cave National Park. Begin your journey at the Sand Cave trail head which is found on Mammoth Cave Road or Highway 70 just outside Cave City. You will find the trail head on your right immediatly after The Wayfarer Inn Bed and Breakfast on the right and Mammoth Cave Canoe and Kayak on the left. If you pass the big Mammoth Cave National Park sign you've gone too far.
As you start the trail, read the tragic tail of Floyd Collins. As you walk, you will already begin to feel the cool cave air. Follow the bridge walk. Stop at the bench and read about the carnival. Continue your walk to the end stopping to read about the failed rescue attempt. Look at Sand Cave below and think of what Floyd went through. Turn around the way you came. Go back to the "carnival" and put your back to the sign. Look slightly to your left off the path at a large fallen tree broken in two halves. Step off the walk and go to the tree. In the middle of the tree where it is slightly broken apart you will find what you seek - we hope it fairs better than Floyd!
Don't forget to take your picture by the big Mammoth Cave National Park sign. If you have time contintue on to take a cave tour through the longest cave system in the world. Another great stop is the small Floyd Collins museum located inside the Wayfarer Inn. Dinosaur World in Cave City is also a great stop.
