December 12, 2010 - All stamps are hand carved. First box is missing. Otherwise, all boxes in good condition but most of the log books are getting full. Please don't add pages to each box but feel free to stamp in your journals.

The Jetsons – Haslett, Michigan, Lake Lansing North Park

Distance: a 2 mile hike/takes a little more than an hour
Terrain: pleasant with mostly flat terrain
Bring ink pad, pencil/pen, compass and maybe bug spray
Paces – half of a two stride step
Trail Marker Definitions: G–green, R–red, B–blue, Y-yellow
All boxes are camouflaged
Pleasant picnic area for lunches or dinners!

(NOTE: All of the boxes are in Lock-n-Lock containers which are air tight if closed properly. Please do NOT put the Lock-n-Lock containers in baggies. It will cause moisture and also animals can tug on the plastic baggies and drag the LB off. (The first LB is NOT in a Lock-N-Lock and should have a baggie around it.)

Please, please be careful when finding and especially replacing a box. Make sure that there is no one watching and take pride in knowing that you replaced the box in better hiding conditions that when you found it. I thank you.

This series is located in Haslett Michigan at the Lake Lansing Park NORTH. Check the web for park location and park trails maps. A trail map is also posted in the park. The clues lead boxers on a portion of the Green Trail VIA Yellow Cutoff.

(The entrance to the North Park is on the north side of the road; sometimes the sign is hard to see. Do not turn into the boat landing by mistake; it’s on the south side of the road almost directly across from the north park entrance.)
This series was inspired by my sister’s of letterboxing; The Four Clovers. When reading the next paragraph, please feel free to just sing it out! Come on – you know the words!

“Meet George Jetson.”
“His Boy Elroy.”
“Daughter Judy.”
“Jane his wife.”

“The Jetsons” - The creators of The Jetsons were true visionaries. Considering most episodes where made in the 60s and 70s these people had a very keen view on the future. Many things came true. The biggest fault is not foreseeing an information based society. Letters are delivered very quickly, but E-mail or an Internet where not predicted by The Jetsons. Here's what did came true: Micro books, an encyclopedia stored on an object the size of a cigarette lighter; Visa Phone, phone with not only sound but also a moving picture. The Jetsons phone number was VENUS-1234.

Clues to the “Jetsons” Letterbox: After pulling into the north park turn into the first drive on your right and park your car (Oak Knoll). You will see a volley ball court and opposite a pavilion. THIS BOX IS MISSING BUT STILL FOLLOW THE CLUES THAT WILL LEAD YOU ON YOUR WAY TO THE JETSON'S LETTERBOXES THAT ARE STILL OK.

Stand at the cement sidewalk facing the pavilion. Take the dirt path to the right just a short distance and stop when you have to make a choice. To the right is a long plank walkway that you’ll see later; after your search is over. Go left (north) and follow this path that skirts around the edge of the swamp. You’ll pass rest rooms, play area and pavilions. Follow the trail until you reach a Trail Head. You’ll see arrows of B/G/R. Travel on the B/G and go past “A Builder of Communities”. Keep following B/G markers and over a plank walkway. From the end of the plank; walk 4 paces and look down the tiny pathway to the NORTH at that medium sized tree on the right, it’s just a few paces in. Its WEST side pocket holds “The Jetsons” (stamp only, no journal). Please do not leave any paper in this container; letterboxes can "log in" to the other journals in the series. PLEASE re-hide and cover this well.

"George Jetson" – He’s a loving family man who always seems to make the wrong decision. George spends long three hour working days at Spacely's Sprockets. He’s 38 years old; husband of Jane and dad of Elroy and Judy. He’s the man in the house. George starts his day with a refreshing ultra-sonic shower (which is much more convenient than a wet shower as one does not need to go through the hassle of taking one's cloths off anymore). A man to love George likes to watch Hill Stars Blues and space ball together with Elroy. When George was a kid he went through 10 miles of asteroid storms to go to Orbit High School, where he was the Star Pitcher of the space ball team.

Clues to the “George Jetson” Letterbox: Continue on trail past “A Place Called Home” and go over another plank walkway. Stop at the B/G marker. Walk 40 paces up trail and stop. At 130 degrees there stands a tree 15 paces in. “George” is no doubt hiding from Astro there.

"Jane Jetson" - She’s always looking for a new look and finding ways to make life as pleasant as possible for poor George. Jane dials a great dinner daily, for example beetle juice and lunar locks. She's a member of the Galaxy Women Historical Society and enjoys the work of Leonardo de Venus and Picasso Pia. Jane wears size 8 and she loves to go shopping at Mooning Dales.

Penny Singleton, who played Blondie in the 1940’s movie series, was the voice of Jane Jetson. The Blondie comic strip is often cited a significant influence on The Jetsons.

Clues to the “Jane” Letterbox: Continue on trail going past “Wetlands Are Not Wastelands” and an observation deck. After the observation deck keep going down the trail. After a short distance the ground levels out before going down again with the swamp to your right. Check out all the super tall giant straight trees, they are amazing. Continue around the swamp to the right. Stop at the B/G marker (there is also a shorter “map” post very near by). Stand facing in the B/G marker and look to 325 degree; there’s a path going uphill behind this marker. With your back to the B/G go up the path 14 paces; step over the log and look to its base for “Jane”.

"Elroy Jetson" - He's about 10 years old and a genius in all space sciences. Elroy attends Little Dipper School. He’s a straight-A student studying space history, astro physics and star geometry. He’s devoted to space adventures with Nimbus the Great on television and playing with his Nimbus zoom-bot. Elroy watches House of the Planet on television with Judy.

Clues to the “Elroy” Letterbox: Continue on plank walkway; read about “Wetlands as a Sponge”. Pass by more giants and go over another plank walkway. Stop at the B/G marker just past the plank – walk 62 paces up the trail of the incline and see the large tree in front of you about 4 paces in; “Elroy” is playing hide and seek with you.

"Judy Jetson" – She’s about 16 years old. Her prime interests: boys, clothes, boys, dating, guys and going out. Her previous dates are: Space Hawk Mike, Vinny van GoGogh, Rocky Retro and Jet Screamer. Judy lives by the directions of her Micro Processor Personal Organizer. She wants a Moonseratti to impress the boys. She studies cyborg biology and astro mathematics. Judy loves to shop at Laser's Department Store.

Clues to the “Judy” Letterbox: Continue on trail; read more about “There’s Life in Dead Trees”; then over plank; then past the “right” angled B/G marker. Soon you’ll come to a spot to stop and say “wow”; look up and smell all the pine. You’ll think you’re in Sherwood Forest but sorry to say that Kevin Costner is not around (darn!). Go past “The Cool, Dark Evergreen Canopy”. Continue on and then take time to rest at the bench near the marker where 2 wrongs are not correct. From this marker go 14 paces; now walk left to the tree that’s 7 paces in. Follow the downed log just behind this tree that points in the direction of a birdhouse. Near the end of this log is “Judy” pining away for her latest boyfriend.

"Rosie" - The house-hold robot. She's an out-dated model but the Jetsons love her and would never trade her for a newer model.

Clues to the “Rosie” Letterbox: Follow Y arrow and go over plank walkway, then some “roots” of all evil. (Actually, I think that automobiles, appliances and plumbing are the root of all evil. Tee he!) Read more about “Ecotones” – head west on G trail. Did you hear the woodpecker? I was lucky enough to hear him and the echo in these woods was amazing and LOUD. Walk on trail quite a distance and then stop at “Brush Piles”. Go 24 paces – look due north on your right; walk 20 paces in to the large tree. From this tree, continue NW on 11 paces more to a tree with a normal trunk plus a small arm on its right side. At its base under a downed small log is the maid “Rosie”.

"Astro" - The family dog, once known as "Tralfaz" in a former life before being adopted by the Jetsons. He’s not always so smart but smart enough to be able to talk (well, at least something that sounds like talking). Astro just loves George and shows it every time George gets home.

Clues to the “Astro” Letterbox: Continue on and go over a longer plank walkway. At its end continue on B/G (don’t even think about turning left here). Read about “Mission Survival”. Take note of the #3 post. The trail curves to the right. Stop at the 2nd B/G marker (after the #3 post). From this 2nd marker turn around and go back in the direction in which you just came 14 paces. Look to your left at 60 degrees to a multi-fingered tree about 7 paces in. “Astro” is hiding around back.

Get back on the trail and continue on to a long plank walkway that leads you back to your car.

I truly hope you have enjoyed your letterboxing adventure today. The Jetson’s Rock!

All emails regarding this LB series much appreciated. Thanks.
